Client Overview
LendFlow Financial Services is a UK-based alternative lending firm providing SME business loans, bridging finance, and invoice discounting products to small and medium enterprises that fall outside traditional high-street bank criteria. Founded by experienced finance professionals with backgrounds in challenger banking and credit risk, LendFlow identified a market gap for a lending platform purpose-built for alternative lenders — one that could handle the full origination lifecycle from application intake through credit assessment, offer generation, document collection, legal execution, and loan book management, without the inflexibility of legacy lending core systems.
Challenges & Problem Statement
LendFlow's pre-platform operations were constrained by a combination of manual processes and disconnected tooling:
- Manual origination lifecycle: Loan applications arrived via email, were assessed via spreadsheet-based credit models, and tracked through email threads and calendar reminders — producing a high error rate, inconsistent turnaround times, and an inability to scale application volume.
- No borrower self-service portal: Borrowers had no channel to submit applications, upload documents, track status, or accept offers. All interaction was managed over email and phone, consuming significant staff time.
- FCA regulatory compliance requirements: FCA-regulated lending requires full audit trails of credit decisions, offer documentation with prescribed disclosure language, and adherence to Consumer Duty and SME lending codes — none of which were supported by spreadsheet-based workflows.
- Multiple product types with distinct workflows: Business loans, bridging finance, and invoice discounting each have different origination stages, credit parameters, offer structures, and document requirements — demanding a configurable workflow engine rather than a hardcoded process.
- Loan book reporting gap: Management and investors needed a live view of the loan book — outstanding balances, repayment status, arrears, and pipeline value — without manually compiled Excel reports.
Project Overview
TTPL designed and delivered LendFlow Pro — a dual-portal Angular + ASP.NET Core SaaS platform managing the complete loan origination and servicing lifecycle. The system comprises a Borrower Portal (application submission, document upload, offer acceptance, repayment history) and an Underwriter Back-Office (pipeline management, credit assessment, offer generation, loan book oversight) backed by a shared ASP.NET Core API, a configurable LoanProductDefinition workflow engine, SQL Server data store, and Stripe payment integration.
Approach
TTPL's architecture team began by mapping LendFlow's three product types to a unified application data model using a ProductFieldValue pattern — accommodating differing field sets without creating separate tables per product. The LoanProductDefinition model was designed to drive all workflow behavior: stage sequences, required documents per stage, SLA durations, approval authority matrices, and offer template mappings — enabling LendFlow to configure products through the admin panel without developer involvement. The credit decision model was designed as append-only at the database level — underwriter UIs write new CreditDecisionLog entries rather than updating application records, ensuring an unalterable decision history. DocuSign webhooks drive offer execution status back to the loan record in real time, and Stripe webhook handlers maintain the payment ledger without polling.
Solution Delivered
Configurable Loan Product Workflow Engine
LoanProductDefinition drives all origination behavior: stage sequences, required document checklists, credit field definitions, SLA timers, approval authority thresholds, and offer template assignments. Adding a new loan product or modifying an existing workflow requires no code deployment — LendFlow's product team owns their own configuration.
Borrower Self-Service Portal
Borrowers submit applications, upload documents to a structured checklist, track status through real-time stage indicators, review and electronically accept offers via DocuSign, and access full repayment schedules and payment history — eliminating the email and phone overhead of the previous process.
Underwriter Pipeline & Credit Assessment
Underwriters manage their application pipeline with filters by product, stage, SLA status, and assigned officer. Credit assessment screens present structured financial data with calculated ratios, editable override fields, and approval/decline actions — all append-only logged to CreditDecisionLog with full user attribution.
PDF Offer Generation & DocuSign E-Signature
Server-side offer document generation merges FCA-mandated disclosure language with application-specific values into compliant PDF packs. DocuSign integration manages the full execution workflow — sending, tracking, and archiving signed documents — with webhook-driven status updates to the loan record.
Stripe Repayment Collection with Dunning Automation
Origination fees, arrangement fees, and monthly repayments collected via Stripe with automatic reconciliation to the loan ledger. Failed payment triggers a configurable dunning sequence — email and SMS reminders at day 1, 3, 7, and 14 — before escalation to the arrears management workflow.
Loan Book & Management Reporting Dashboard
Live loan book view aggregating outstanding balances, repayment schedules, arrears, expected monthly collections, and product-split pipeline value — refreshed nightly from the payment ledger with same-day accuracy for payments processed before close of business.
Result
LendFlow Pro launched with all three product types active. Application-to-offer turnaround dropped from an average of 11 days to 3.2 days. The borrower portal reduced inbound phone and email queries by 70% in the first quarter. Regulatory audit requests that previously required days of manual document assembly are now fulfilled in under two hours via the CreditDecisionLog export. Stripe-driven repayment collection reduced manual payment reconciliation from a weekly half-day process to fully automated.
Client Benefits
3.2-Day Application-to-Offer Turnaround
Down from 11 days — structured pipeline management and automated document checklists eliminated the coordination delays that slowed every origination cycle.
FCA-Ready Audit Trail
Every credit decision is append-only logged with timestamp and user attribution. Regulatory audit requests fulfilled in under two hours.
Configurable Without Code Deployments
New loan products and workflow modifications are managed through the admin panel — LendFlow's product team owns their own workflow configuration.
70% Reduction in Borrower Enquiries
Self-service status tracking and document portal eliminated the majority of inbound phone and email queries from borrowers chasing updates.
Fully Automated Repayment Reconciliation
Stripe integration with automatic ledger reconciliation eliminated weekly manual reconciliation and reduced late payment identification from days to same-day.
Client Feedback
"The configurable workflow engine was exactly what we needed — we've already added a fourth product without involving TTPL's developers at all. The audit trail has been reviewed twice by our compliance team and holds up to FCA scrutiny without any gaps. This is the foundation we needed to scale."
